Chasing the Wind of Authority
(Ecclesiastes 8:1-9)

Wisdom is demonstrated by humble submission to appointed authorities while trusting the King who holds every heart and directs all things.

The Wisdom of Humble Submission:

  1. Wisdom has a look. (1-2)

  2. Wisdom is tested by human authority. (3-8)

  3. Wisdom applies, even when power is tragic. (9)

Reflection Questions

  1. In which area of your life are you choosing the exhaustion of defiance over the "shining face" of a wise and submitted heart?

  2. Are you looking to a boss, a spouse, or a government to provide the peace that only the King who conquered death can offer?

  3. How does the gospel — knowing Jesus was "hurt" by tragic power so He could Lord over you with grace — allow you to finally stop the war and find rest today?
