The Habit of the Word
(Joshua 1:7-8)

The habit of the Word is the true means to experiencing God’s grace.

  1. Know God’s Word. (8a)

  2. Live God’s Word. (7a-b; 8b)

  3. Experience grace through God’s Word. (7c; 8c)

Reflection Questions

  • Take stock: what are your current Word habits?

    > What is your heart motivation behind your current habits? Is it to “check the box?” Is it to gain knowledge for knowledge sake? Is it to know God?

    > What would right heart motivation look like for you?

  • Pray: Ask the Spirit to show you where you are missing God by missing His Word.

  • Act: Make a plan to optimize your Word habits and incorporate them into your life rhythms.

  • Repent: Are there areas where you are a hearer only and not a doer?

    > Ask the Spirit to change your heart and mind.

    > Resolve to act, to trust God, and obey His Word.

  • Reap: Are you leaving God’s grace on the table?

    > Celebrate his grace that you already live in.

    > Consider the spiritual blessings absent in your life, and how they are and can be fulfilled in Christ.
