This is part of Jesus’ Farewell Discourse, in which he’s preparing his disciples for his imminent departure - to the cross, to the grave, and to his throne in heaven.
Questions
Jesus makes it a point that anyone who loves him will also obey him. What’s the relationship between love and obedience? Why would loving someone - especially Jesus - mean that we would trust and do what they say?
What does it mean when we DON’T obey Jesus? Does that mean that we don’t love him anymore?
Jesus also mentions some things that those who love Jesus get to enjoy. What are some of those things?
What’s it look like to be loved by the Father? It’s one thing to say it’s true; it’s another to experience that in some way that makes a difference!
What’s it mean that Jesus will manifest (or reveal) himself only to those who love him?
When you think of the Father and Son coming to make their home with us, what do you envision? What does that mean?
Jesus bookends this passage by talking about the Holy Spirit. What’s his role in Jesus’ absence?
