Comparison in the Kingdom
(1 Samuel 8:1-22)

Main Idea:
The dysfunctional path of comparison exposes the beat of our heart.

-

  1. Comparison blinds the heart. (8:1-9)

  2. A blind heart leads to bad choices. (8:10-19)

  3. The worst choice is rejecting God. (8:19-22)

Reflection Questions

  1. How have you been challenged to understand the weight of your sin, the trajectory of your heart, and your need to turn?
    >> Have you noticed a tendency to downplay your sin?
    >> What excuses do you depend on to defend your need to turn?
    >> How does this show up in your human relationships?

  2. If “all of life is repentance,” what rhythms do you have in place to help lead your heart to reflect, own, turn, and trust God?
    >> What do your prayers say / not say about your need to repent?

  3. It’s not all bad – what gifts and beauty of God does all of this reveal? >> How does this lead to thankfulness to our God who is quick to forgive, and steadfast in love?
