Before and After in The 333

When The Village began gathering regularly in October of 2009, we were meeting in the gymnasium of the Hamilton Central YMCA. From the get-go, it was our desire to adopt an unused space in the downtown Hamilton area, fix it up, and gather there. Our motivation was practical, theological, and missional: we wanted to have a permanent space that we didn't have to setup and tear-down every week; it symbolizes what God does in our own lives by taking something dead and broken and bringing it to life; and it gives us a more physical presence and a home-base for connecting, serving, and revitalizing our community.

In November of 2011 we launched Project 333, a six-week blitz of an old Moose Lodge that had since been used for occasional birthday parties and other random events. When we came in, the century-old building was filled with junk, covered in splatter paint, and poorly lit with harsh florescent lights. After a month and a half, a handful of generous givers, creative thinkers, and talented workers reinvented the space into The 333 (so named because of the address, 333 South Second Street).

While we're using the space every Sunday morning for our weekly gatherings, we also want it to be utilized throughout the week as well. Studies, meetings, art shows, concerts, and other community events are things we'd love to see happen at The 333. See below for booking information.

The 333 has:

  • A main gathering space that can comfortably accommodate 125 individuals in seated rows, around tables, or standing room.
  • A cafe area called The Commons with tables, chairs, and a vintage bar for serving refreshments

  • A new stage with lighting, sound booth and board, and ceiling-mounted projectors and screens

  • A resource area where folks can buy books, take free Bibles, and pick up other helpful stuff

  • Three children's rooms that can also accommodate studies, meetings, etc.

  • A cry room for parents and restless kids

  • Office space for staff and volunteers
